One for “Belle du Seigneur”

I came across this beautiful musical piece while doing some random search on Youtube. This is a composition by the Spanish musician, Nacho Sotomayor. The song is titled as ‘Belle du Seigneur’ which refers to a ‘lover or beloved’ in French. It is a part of Sotomayor’s album La Roca Vol.7.

Belle du Seigneur also features in the original soundtrack of the movie starring Jonathan Rhys Meyers and Natalia Vodianova. In fact, the video shared here, is a clip from the same movie. The movie is based on a famous novel by Albert Cohen which is an account of a heated love affair set on the brink of World War II.

I don’t understand French but the song speaks out to me. The music captures an intense mood and the flute renders a very fine classical touch to the notes. If you listen carefully, you will appreciate the huge variation of sounds that has been neatly assembled in this one song. I mean, there are very few pieces where I’ve found such a divine co-existence of the piano and the flute. Don’t they sound so heavenly together?

One for Cristina Yang… Ruby Blue

Song: Ruby Blue

Artist: Sleeping at last.

All you Grey’s Anatomy fans must be familiar with this track.

This song is so Cristina Yang and it was only apt to have it play for her last episode on Grey’s. The finale of Season 10 was heart breaking with one of the show’s most loved character making an exit. I used to watch the show only because of Cristina and Owen. Now, with Cristina gone, the show wouldn’t be the same. This song renders a touching final goodbye moment for Cristina.

Cheers to you Sandra Oh for making Cristina’s character so striking and memorable!

One for the mush! – My favourite love songs…

So, I thought of sharing some of my favourite love songs. Sometimes, we need the mush!

(1) It must have been love ~ Roxette

This is surely one of the most popular love songs of all time. It features in the soundtrack of Pretty Woman. Totally, love the song and the movie!

(2) Hello ~  Lionel Richie

Again, a very famous love song.

(3) Take my breath away ~ Berlin

This is from the soundtrack of Top Gun. Love the song and the movie. I think, this is one couple with electric onscreen chemistry.

(4) Close to you ~ Carpenters

They don’t make songs like this anymore. Such a beautiful track and no one could have sung it better than Karen Carpenter.

(5) Whilte Flag ~ Dido

Who doesn’t like Dido’s voice? Dido forever! Yes!

(6) Brighter than Sunshine ~ Aqualung

This is a song by Aqualung  and it features in the soundtrack of A lot like love. This comes with the very typical Aqualung-ish feel.

(7)  So into you ~ Atlantic Rhythm Section

I feel that this is a way underrated band and this song is definitely a diamond! I came across this song through the soundtrack of The Fighter. You might also want to check out the entire soundtrack of that movie. It’s a brilliant!

(8)  Time after time – Cyndi Lauper

This is a very old number and I first heard it when I was watching Romy and Michele’s High School Reunion. In that reference, I would like to share the clipping from that movie. You can check out the original video on your own. 🙂

(9) Something stupid ~ Frank Sinatra

Does this song need any introduction?

(10) La vie en rose ~ Louis Armstrong

Again, no introduction needed.

(11) Speak softly love ~ Andy Williams

Absolutely, love this one. Every Godfather fan will know why.

(12) Where do I begin ~  Love story (1970) theme song

This is the classic theme song by Francis Lai. The first video is the instrumental version and the second one is sung by Andy Williams (clipping from the movie).

So, these my top favourites and maybe, more will be added to the list.

Which one is your favourite? Please, feel free to share as good music must be shared. 🙂

Cheers!

One for “Letting go”…

Song: “Let go” ~ Frou Frou

Yes, the time has come to update this blog!

I have been collecting quite a few songs in the past few months or should I say, these songs found me?

So, I was watching the movie called ‘Garden State’ and just half way through the movie, I realize that I already love the soundtrack! It is an absolute must have!  Each song has been beautifully picked to make it such a delightful compilation.

Thanks to this movie, I came across ‘Frou Frou’, a British electronic duo composed of Imogen Heap and Guy Sigsworth. It is quite possible that you must have already listened to their music but I will share it anyway, for the sake of those who haven’t.  🙂

The song is called “Let go” and it most definitely captures the essence of the phrase ‘letting go’. I am sure most of us have experienced a time, where we just had to let go of things. But then, we often contemplate and get stuck. This song is a reminder that there’s beauty in letting go, there’s beauty in falling down, there’s beauty in breakdown. Ask me why? Because it’s alright to let things happen to you. Trust in the universe, to put things in perspective. It can be extremely testing but hey, that’s how we learn, don’t we?

So let go, take a deep breath and fall, if you must… But always remember, you won’t be the same person again, when you rise up. It’ll be a different you… Meet that different you.

In case you like this song, you might also enjoy ‘Must be dreaming’ by Frou Frou. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ktv_12gzg-g

Happy letting go!

One for C’est la vie ~ Emerson, Lake & Palmer

This is an old one. It’s by the musicians who go by the name of Emerson, Lake & Palmer. (Read about Emerson, Lake & Palmer)

Previously, I had posted about one of their songs called “Still… you turn me on”. This is another amazing track by them I’m not sure if most of you have heard this one. If not, just hit the play button.

Absolutely love the vocalist! What a voice!

Song: C’est la vie ~ Emerson, Lake & Palmer

Lyrics:

C’est la vie

Have your leaves all turned to brown
Will you scatter them around you
C’est la vie.

Do you love
And then how am I to know
If you don’t let your love show for me
C’est la vie.

(Chorus) Oh, oh, c’est la vie.
Oh, oh, c’est la vie.
Who knows, who cares for me…
C’est la vie.

In the night
Do you light a lover’s fire
Do the ashes of desire for you remain.

Like the sea
There’s a love too deep to show
Took a storm before my love flowed for you
C’est la vie

(Chorus) Oh, oh, c’est la vie.
Oh, oh, c’est la vie.
Who knows, who cares for me…
C’est la vie.

Like a song
Out of tune and out of time
All I needed was a rhyme for you
C’est la vie.

Do you give
Do you live from day to day
Is there no song I can play for you
C’est la vie.

(Chorus) Oh, oh, c’est la vie.
Oh, oh, c’est la vie.
Who knows, who cares for me…
C’est la vie.

One for the charm of simple music…

Happy Birthday ~ The Innocence Mission

Rain ~ The Innocence Mission

And I’ve done it yet again! Haven’t posted in a while but know what? I’ve been collecting songs and see what I bring in this time…

Last month, I came across this band called “The Innocence Mission” and felt the joy of music kept simple. This is for the lovers of pure / acoustic / blues.

How a song could be so simple and ever more appealing? I’m glad that they still make music like this. Glad but even more grateful.

Give it a listen…

One for the self guessing “Who am I?” moments…

Have you heard “The Samples”? Great music. I really liked this track. Beautifully penned lyrics and composed. Nice acoustic sound!

Give it a listen.
